My name is Arju Patel. My wife and I, along with our one-year-old, are the new owners of Drews Place.
Drews Place has been caring for seniors in Hillsdale and Coldwater since 1986. We didn’t buy it to change what makes it special. We bought it because the family who built these homes ran them the way we try to run our own businesses: like family. That shared way of doing things is part of the reason they chose us to carry their homes forward. The Drews Place name stays, and so does the care behind it.
Where I come from
I grew up in hospitality. As a kid, I was the runner who brought deliveries to guests’ rooms. Later, I worked the front desk. The lesson I learned early was simple: treat every guest like they’re your own. Do what you promised, then try to do a little more, because that’s what you do for your own people.
Caring for elders is something I grew up with too. In our culture, families often live together across generations, and we take care of our elders at home. Some of my earliest memories are of being held by my grandparents, and even my great-grandparents. Growing up that way taught me the patience, gentleness and respect that caring for an older person asks of you. Those are the things we bring to our homes.
Why we keep our homes small
Each of our homes has room for just twenty residents, and we keep it that way on purpose. A small home means we know every resident by name. We know their hobbies and their stories, and we get to know their families too. Our hope is that residents and their families come to see us as an extension of their own family.
Something to look forward to
Even an ordinary day should have something good in it. We plan activities that are creative and fun, and we’re always looking for ways to bring a little of that youthful spark back into every week.
Always getting better
We keep working to improve, through training and supporting our staff and through regularly reviewing how we do things. The goal never changes: every home should be safe, and a happy place to live.
We don’t live in Hillsdale or Coldwater ourselves, but we have friends and family who do. These communities matter to us.
