Start the conversation
- Talk with your parent early, before a crisis forces a quick decision.
- Ask what matters most to them: privacy, staying near friends and church, their routines, their hobbies.
- Bring them on tours whenever you can. It’s their home, and how they feel about it matters most.
- Talk with their doctor about the level of care they need now, and what they may need later.
Questions to ask on any tour
- How many residents live here, and how many staff are on duty during the day and at night?
- How are medications handled?
- What’s included in the monthly rate, and what costs extra? Are there admission or application fees?
- What happens if care needs change?
- Can residents bring their own furniture and belongings?
- When can family visit?
- What does an ordinary day look like? Can we see this month’s activities?
- How do staff keep families informed?
- Could we come back for a meal?
What to bring to your tour
- This list of questions, and a notebook
- A list of current medications and care needs
- Your parent, if they’re able to come
- Anyone else who helps make decisions
How Drews Place answers a few of these
Each of our homes has room for just twenty residents. Trained staff are here 24 hours a day, and medication management is included. There are no admission or application fees, and visiting hours are open. For the rest, read our FAQ or schedule a tour. A home manager will answer every question on your list.
